This is our monthly citizen’s action meeting with our Community Prosecutor, Daniel Ryan. More and more people are coming to these meetings, and the information as well as the networking can be very helpful. Do come if you can. I know it’s short notice but Daniel Ryan sends these out the day before the meeting, and I should have remembered the date myself. We are currently trying to find a way to get rid of a Novelty Shop offering “adult novelties” at Oates Plaza , stop the zoning change for a 100 foot cell phone tower to be put in the parking lot at Shiloh Terrace, get more help with our stray dog problems, get the city to contact the right people to get tennis shoes off the telephone or cable lines in four locations, make the owners of the former pawn shop at 2 Points take down the faded, broken signs in front that face on Buckner, and begin to put the pressure on DISD to acknowledge the serious overcrowding and lack of facilities and resources at Truett Elementary and do something about those problems. All of these things affect our lives in many ways, large and small. They affect our property values and our crime rates. They affect our mental and emotional balance and health. They affect our ability to forge relationships in a community that is divided in many directions among people of many different cultures and languages. We can make a difference, but we really do need more support from our state, city, school district, and others. Hope to see you tomorrow evening. Ellen Childress

Please contact Carolyn Davis to ask for help keeping the Send a Kid to Camp and Truett After-School programs in place.  The kids here at Truett really do need a LOT of help.  And if you want to come to Daniel Ryan, our Community Prosecutor’s ACTION meeting tomorrow night, it’s at 6:30 PM at the White Rock Hills Church of Christ Fellowship Hall on Ferguson Road.

Let Councilwoman Davis know the number of kids that are served by the Send a Kid to Camp program in your community and the great need for this programing to continue.
